Asbestos Removal Goes On at Phillip Showell Elementary While Students are Present

With school still in session, Phillip Showell Elementary School in Selbyville, Delaware is embarking on an asbestos removal project that has sparked health concerns among some parents and community members.

Asbestos, a naturally occurring mineral, is known to cause diseases such as mesothelioma that can be deadly. The removal project can cause asbestos to get in the air and may raise the risk for such diseases.

However, the school says they must stick to the construction timeline to get work done in time. After asbestos removal, the Clayton Building, housing the school, will be rebuilt by September 2010.
